Wedding Filmmaking or Wedding Videography?

Who do I hire?

Through your extensive creative wedding search, you’ve probably heard the words Filmmaking, Wedding Film, Wedding Videography, etc. This term likes to be thrown around, similar to the word “luxury”. Distinguishing between filmmaking and videography can be a somewhat subjective term, but not entirely. According to standard definitions, filmmaking involves a more comprehensive process, including scriptwriting, shooting, editing, and post-production, with an emphasis on storytelling and artistic expression. In contrast, videography primarily focuses on capturing events or real-time footage. In the wedding creative scene, videographers and filmmakers pretty much cover the same ground. "Filmmaker" gets thrown around more in Hollywood lingo where it means a whole production deal. But in the wedding game, we're not chatting with film critics; we're talking to everyday folks who might not speak our language. So, some stick with "wedding videography" – it's a friendlier term that spells out what we do without getting into the nitty-gritty film school stuff. Some companies like us use both terms.
